Evolution of an Art Studio

One recent morning, I hopped onto Pinterest to browse around, and it showed me my own post about my art studio – from 2011!

Pinterest, of all places!

This was my art studio at my house, in a small room, about 7×10 ft.

Let’s be real: it only looked this tidy maybe once so I could take a photo! The rest of the time, papers were everywhere and paintings were drying on the kitchen table and markers were wedged between the couch cushions!

I used that home studio for quite a while, then in 2013 I rented an office space in town with my friend Dana. We shared that space for 6 months, then we rented the office next door and I moved my workspace there.

Those studios worked out really well for us for several years till we moved down the street.

In 2016, the next stop on my studio journey was still on Main Street, about a half block south. We dubbed it Uncommon Art.

I had a pretty, light-filled studio where I could set up tables, spread out, and make a mess. I used that studio for about 4 years. Nice views of Main Street from those windows!

Early 2020, I moved to the next studio over so that we could transform my former studio into gallery space. A pretty room, as well, though a bit smaller.

In late 2020, we moved Uncommon Art down the street to a smaller retail location. That meant our studios would go in a basement, which didn’t thrill me. I have not had a studio in the basement and this one had been used only for storage for a long time. Talk about COBWEBS! Ick.

It needed serious cleaning, plus lights, heat, plumbing, electrical.

You know, the works 😉

Here’s a photo recap of the transformation:

It’s a great place to work. Who knows how long I’ll be here??
