This is one of those projects where inspiration comes from the materials themselves!
My friend, Mary McVay, asked if I would do a Trading Papers #tradingpapers swap with her. Well, yeah, I’m up for a fun challenge!
The swap meant sending each other a box of collage goodies (paper, fabric, bric a brac, and other little pieces), then making something with those supplies.
Mary’s box arrived, full of wonderful bits. I opened it, sorted through the pieces, then set it aside for a while to let ideas percolate.
I ended up making a mixed media journal using the materials Mary sent. In the package of goodies she sent me, she included 2 small pieces of artwork that were so precious and needed to be preserved. One had a little girl and the phrase “flower dance”, which I liked immensely, so I used that on the journal cover and have dubbed this The Flower Dance Journal.
The other artwork became a tag that fits inside a pocket inside the book.
The video below shows the process: from unboxing the goodies, to me working with the materials, to the finished project:

This collab was inspired by three amazing artists who did a similar project earlier in the year: Jenni at @artgirlcreations78 , Kristi Nazzaro @soul_positive, and Kristin Peterson @alteredstatesstudio .
