CATography, a photography exhibit

If you are lucky enough to be the caretaker of a feline friend, you’ll more than likely find plenty of opportunities to take their photo.

I am right there with you. My little furry companion is named Toots, a foster fail who can be feisty and lovable, playful and cuddly, delightful and demanding. My little buddy.

Two of my photographs of her (see below) are included in an exhibition titled, CATography, at the Cleveland Photo Fest this September. I am really honored to be part of this show, as entries were open to artists nationwide and only about 60 were chosen.

The entry requirements asked us to “intently consider the CAT essence of your best friend”, which led me to select these photos.

The exhibit at Cleveland Photo Fest opens on September 6th, and will remain on display through September 29, 2024. I hope you can join us that evening, as CATography is one of many events happening that evening.

CATography is free and open to the public; hours are Fridays from noon – 9pm; Saturdays and Sundays from noon – 5pm.

Location: Bostwick Design Art Initiative at 2731 Prospect Rd, Cleveland, OH 44115.

“Early Morning” (below, left) is just that: I sat on the edge of the bed one morning before I got up while Toots perched on the nightstand. The shadows cast by the morning sunlight caught my attention so I quickly snapped a photo. I’ve always been fond of the quiet, contemplative nature of this image.

“Curves and Angles” (below, right) is one that contrasts the curved feline shape against the angular pattern of the quilt, dark fur against pastel fabric. I love how her tail drapes elegantly over the folds of the blanket. Again, a simple, quiet image.
