Collide Paste Up Wall

When I first saw the announcement about this Collide Paste Up Wall project, I have to admit that my brain did a little glitch. I mean, I know what those words all mean individually, but put them together, and … what?

Collide is an arts and culture organization in Cuyahoga Falls, which is very active in bringing attention to the arts.

Paste up wall? I hadn’t heard of that, so I asked the Google. Turns out it’s like those walls where theaters and show promoters paste up (a ha) playbills, show posters, and announcements.

Paste up walls are gaining popularity as an arts activity, too. They seem to fall at the intersection of collage, street art, and graffiti.

Fun!

This one is in Cuyahoga Falls, in the plaza at 2300 Front Street next to Leo’s Italian Social.

Instead of being a long wall, it’s set up as 4 panels that intersect in the middle, which are surrounded by flowers. Really nicely done!

I entered 2 images that they printed (the cat and the handprint/bird below), and created an original piece (also below) especially for the wall. I wanted something colorful, joyful, and uplifting, which to me is in the spirit of the wall.

They ended up with artwork from more than 100 artists (I can’t remember exactly) ranging in age from 4 years to 91 years.

The wall is up for about another month-ish. You should check it out if you can.
