Well, what better show for The Magpie’s Eye than an Oddball show!
I am delighted to learn that it has been accepted into the OddBall Show at Stella’s Art Gallery in Willoughby.
The opening reception is Friday the 13th (how appropriate!) and the show runs till November 6.
I can’t wait to see the show! I caught a glimpse of a few other entries as artists brought them in, and am thoroughly intrigued by how artists interpreted the show’s theme.
My entry, The Magpie’s Eye, is inspired by thinking about how collage artists are like magpies: we collect shiny bits and unusual bobs.
So I glued all kinds of paper bits (images from magazines, stickers, painted papers, tissue, metal foil) onto a round piece of paper, and ran it through the sewing machine.
I handpainted the eye in the center.
Then I nestled the colorful disk into a nest made of wallpaper strips. A magpie needs a nest, right?
After stitching shiny sequins and beads on the surface, I called it done.
This magpie is mighty happy with the results.
Be sure to stop out to Stella’s and see it in person!
