So I realize we’re a bit past spring at this point, but that’s ok. “Early Spring” is a collage I did…in early spring…but just realized that I hadn’t posted it.
This collage was also early in a new style that has been evolving over the past few months. The first layer is old dictionary pages that I glued all over the canvas. The next layer is drizzled ink. Then several layers of torn paper (tissue, handmade papers, printed images). And lastly, a strip of plastic for that fence/train track looking bit.
Putting this together was very satisfying. It started with a “what if”: “What if” I cover this entire canvas with dictionary pages torn into bits and stuck down every which way?” And each layer after that was more of “I wonder what would happen if I tried…”.
I didn’t know it would end up looking like this but the pieces all came together naturally, like they belonged together.
