“Finding My Way Home” started with a bit of nostalgia for the places I’ve lived throughout my life. I’ve been wondering how much longer I want to stay in my current home – I’ve been here since 2004. I just love it, but it’s getting to be a lot for me to keep up by myself.
The thought of leaving it makes me sad, but I realized that I’ve been happy wherever I’ve lived: houses, apartments, dorm rooms, condos. I’m very fortunate – every place I’ve lived has truly become “home”. Makes me optimistic that the next place will also be wonderful.
So I started thinking about all the places, and oddly enough, some house numbers stood out in my mind.
391, from the house I lived in as a small child in California.
8694, for the house that was our family’s home for 35 years.
9024, for the very first place I bought and owned all by myself.
126, for where I am now.
I can’t remember the other numbers, not with any certainty, but decided not to look them up. Figured if I couldn’t remember them, then so be it. The ones that stand out are really the ones that matter most.
So you’ll see papers, numbers, maps, and even numbers in this piece. And, yes, that’s a gingko leaf – this house has the best gingko trees.
