Quilted Kitty

Quilted Kitty was inspired by seeing my cat, Toots, sitting on a quilted bedspread.

I really love that particular pose: the fluffy cat silhouette with her flowy tail contrasted with triangular quilt pieces in pastel colors.

My collage started with dictionary pages (of course) in the background, softened with layers of paint. The angular quilt pieces are machine stitched onto the background. It was a bit of a challenge to fit the entire piece through the sewing machine.

The cat is cut from patterned paper, with just a little paint for added dimension.

My photo of Toots (the inspiration for this collage) was exhibited in the CATography exhibit at the Cleveland PhotoFest in fall 2024.
